Match Results week ending 2 June 2019
The past weeks results are as follows starting with the juniors...
Under 8s Our under 8s on Saturday morning welcomed Norton-in-Hales. Scorecard is incomplete but in our first innings we made 27 for 4 and they replied with 64 for 1. In our second innings we improved and made 35 for 0 but the opposition then replied with 54 for 1 to give Norton-in-Hales the win by 66 runs.
Under 10s The under 10s had no game this week
Under 12s The under 12s could not play this week due to it being half term.
Under 13s The under 13s on Sunday morning put in a strong performance against Whitmore. Batting first Josh Woodcock 53, Ben Hilton 45 and Charlie Bode 38 batted well to set us on our way to an imposing target of 178 for 4. In reply Whitmore lost early wickets with two for Alistair Gething and one for Lizzie Gething with Charlie Bode, Fraser Nichol and Archie Woodward helping themselves to a wicket each. Lizzie Gething though wasn’t satisfied with her one wicket and turned in a star performance by taking another four wickets, three of them in one over to finish with her best ever figures of 5 for 10 off 5 overs to leave Whitmore 45 all out. Great effort by Lizzie and the team as a whole In front of a decent crowd of people watching.
Under 14s The under 14s were also not able to play this week due to half term.
The 1X1 on Saturday looked to continue their good early season form with the visit of Bignall End. The opposition decided to bat first and were restricted to 185 all out. Andy Cooper with 4 for 62 off 17 overs and Tom Lawton with 3 for 44 off 14 did the bulk of the damage. Matt Johnson picked up a wicket and his brother Chris running out two of their top five batsman. In reply a couple of early wickets saw Dan Redfern join Tom Blackwood at the crease as they took the score to 79 before Tom was out for a well played 36. Another wicket followed to leave us 93 for 4 but Dan Redfern and Martin Mason put on 76 for the fifth wicket to take us to 169. Dan at this point was out for a brilliant 84 to leave Mase 32 not out and Chris Johnson to finish the job off for a great win and much beer drinking on Saturday night. The Sixes Challenge saw no one register a six this week.
The 2X1 made the trip to Wood Lane looking for that first league win. Bowling first we restricted Wood Lane to 138 all out. Some good bowling from Christian Gething 4 for 33 and Liam Bedson 4 for 24 with tidy spells from Jamie Lawton and Joe Tomkinson with a wicket each and would have taken that before the game. In reply at 93 for 5 the game was finely poised but the return of their opener had us all out for 114. Benj Shirley 24 and Liam Bedson 24 were top scorers in a game we should really have won.
3X1 The 3X1 on Sunday made the trip to Bignall End. The opposition batted first and seven of their top eight all made starts but we checked their progress with some decent fielding and catching. The leading bowler on the day for us Imre Evans last played for us 17 years ago as a junior and he made a great return as he finished with figures of 4 for 34 off 6 overs he was supported by Andy Gething with 3 for 18 and a wicket each for Kev Bennett and Ant Warburton. Rain during their innings saw us lose eight overs meaning we needed 155 to win from 32 overs. James Hopkin 23, Tom Warburton 39 set us on our way. Pete Hemmings then strode to the crease and proceeded to play sweeps, drives and flicks as he made a personal best of 33 to take us close to victory. Martin Smith in unfamiliar territory at number five made a patient and calm 15 not out with Ant Warburton and Andy Gething getting us over the line for a good win.
4X1 The 4X1 on Sunday welcomed Weston, being asked to bat first we were restricted to 134 for 8, Rob Heath in good form batted through most of the innings making 65 supported by Rich White with 23 and Bill Tomkinson 18. In reply despite three wickets for Rich White and a wicket for Clive. Weston won in twenty five overs.
Next Saturday sees the 1X1 away at Porthill 2X1 and our 2X1 at home to Hanford.
The Sunday sees the 1X1 in 20/20 action at Silverdale being joined by Sandbach and our 3X1 at home to Crewe.
